As a Legal Counsel based in our Japan office in Tokyo, you will report to the Senior Legal Counsel, Japan, and work with senior lawyers in the AirTrunk legal team and various teams. The senior lawyers at AirTrunk have extensive top-tier law firm experience, and you will receive high-quality training. You will be expected to make your mark in several ways:
- You will collaborate closely with senior lawyers in the AirTrunk legal team and work with the business to provide prompt, practical, and commercial legal advice to support the growth of the AirTrunk business, including strategic projects;
- You will support the AirTrunk legal and business teams across various matters, including construction, procurement, data centre operations, IP and trademark, real property, energy and renewable power, corporate structuring, capital raising, financing, joint ventures, and general commercial contracts such as confidentiality agreements;
- You will be able to hone new skills and expertise in related workstreams as required, developing an in-depth knowledge of AirTrunk’s business, operations, technologies, and services, and providing legal support on AirTrunk’s strategic initiatives.
Your Day to Day
- Review, comment on and draft a wide range of commercial contracts with supervision from senior lawyers in the AirTrunk legal team
- Provide legal advice that is accurate, practical and easy to understand to non-legal AirTrunk staff across various business units
- Help the AirTrunk legal team initiatives such as improving internal processes and operation
- Monitor and coordinate the AirTrunk legal team queries and requests
- Manage external legal counsel in Japan and across APAC
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of AirTrunk’s operations, technologies and products/services
- Pick up on complex issues and propose solutions
- Provide legal advisory support and training when required for AirTrunk’s operations
- Educate and provide guidance to AirTrunk staff on legal matters
- Provide input and support on AirTrunk’s global and regional initiatives and projects
- Promotes legal and compliance awareness the business, including delivering training sessions
- Other related legal matters as required
Requirements
- Law degree from an accredited law school and qualified lawyer in Japan (bengoshi)
- Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience
- Candidates from reputable law firms who have very strong business law experience, commercial acumen and a desire to work closer with the business are very welcome to apply.
- Experience or strong interest in the financing, real property, energy and construction and major projects space is a plus.
- Excellent drafting, negotiating, transaction management and relationship building skills
- Ability to assess and advise on legal risk as part of providing solution driven advice
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with people from different business teams and location
- Humble attitude and deep curiosity toward unfamiliar areas.

- Business-level proficiency in English is required, with strong reading and writing skills essential. Excellent verbal communication skills in English are highly desirable.
