Wolt was founded in 2014 and joined forces with DoorDash in 2022. DoorDash operates in 29 countries today, 25 of which are with the Wolt product and brand.

Behind the scenes, Wolt is run by over 50 cross-functional, independent and autonomous teams, an awesome bunch of over 700+ engineers, designers, data scientists/analysts and product leads. Each team takes ownership for solving customer problems in the best possible way. We call ourselves Product+, as we’re the very core of Wolt’s products, tools and platforms.
Who are we looking for?
Wolt’s service was launched in Japan in 2020 and since joining forces with DoorDash last year, we have now grown into a few product development teams locally in Japan. We are now looking for a few Backend Kotlin Engineers and Frontend Engineers to build a new team from the ground up - the Consumer Pricing Team!
As a backend engineer on our team, you’ll collaborate closely with our other talented backend engineers, product lead, designer, and data experts to build and refine our pricing models. You’ll partner with our Web engineers to design and implement pricing configurability in our internal toolings, execute A/B testing experiments, and find the perfect balance between customer satisfaction and company profitability. Your work will directly impact how millions of customers experience our platform, making pricing smarter, fairer, and more transparent!
Experience
If you …
- Are a self-driven and experienced backend developer with at least 3 years of experience building high-quality software, familiar with modern technologies and cloud platforms.
- Are familiar with Kotlin – that is a bonus, though not a requirement. We welcome candidates from all technical backgrounds, as we value skills and expertise over specific tech stacks (Go, Python, Scala, Java)
- Our primary backend stack is Kotlin, running as microservices on Kubernetes managed by AWS. Other stacks include React, and TypeScript.
- Have experience with testing processes and strive to build in quality to all areas of app development, from the user interface to the architecture and codebase.
- thrive in a collaborative environment that spans across teams and countries, and you have the autonomy, ownership, and communication skills to drive projects—whether working independently or with a team.
- Enjoy a hybrid working environment – we ask that you be based in the Tokyo area. We also offer relocation support to help you settle in smoothly.
