About Position
Paidy is looking for an experienced and dedicated Legal Counsel. The Legal Counsel will be expected to provide solutions and drive business by handling legal issues in corporate legal, commercial legal, and regulatory areas. The candidate should be ready and enthusiastic to understand and help solve complex and cutting edge problems within an organization.
This position will be expected to collaborate with cross-functional departments on matters related to the commercial legal counsel and regulatory audit functions. Communication skills in English will be a must.
The candidate will be responsible for supporting the Legal & Compliance Division and liaising with different departments on commercial legal matters, including legal review/consultants ranging from regulatory, commercial, labor, and to other fields.
The candidate will also participate in discussions with a wider PayPal legal community regarding any group integration tasks.
In addition to the above responsibilities for Paidy, Inc., the candidate may also be assigned tasks for PayPal Japan.
Key Role & Responsibilities
- Corporate Legal
- Providing support to the Legal & Compliance Division team members regarding corporate governance matters
- Handling administrative tasks for any changes in corporate matters (e.g. directors and paid-in capital)
- Handling administrative tasks for intra-group restructuring and providing support related to contract reviews
- Reviewing and drafting internal rules and regulations
- Commercial Legal
- Reviewing and drafting commercial contracts
- Engaging with relevant business stakeholders and supporting the Legal & Compliance Division team members when advising stakeholders
- Regulatory
- Reviewing and providing solutions for product updates and new service launches
- Advising the regulatory inspections and inquiries (if any)
- Managing regulatory licenses under the Installment Sales Act and providing timely updates to the Division, so that the company can have good relationships with the government agencies to maintain relevant licenses
- Group Integration
- Participating in discussions with a wider PayPal Legal community regarding any legal integration tasks.
- A portion of the position’s workload may be dedicated to PayPal Japan, depending on the needs of the business.
Skills & Requirements
Must
- Attorney at law qualified in Japan
- 5-10 years of work experience in legal fields
- Ability to communicate and collaborate cross-functionally
- Strong educational and/or occupational background in legal
- Native-level Japanese
- Business-level English
Nice to have
- Work experience in government relations and/or in-house legal.
- Work experience in a legal role at financial institutions is a plus.
