Senior Field Service Engineer – Hokkaido (Tomakomai)
Location: Tomakomai, Hokkaido, Japan
Customer: Rapidus
Travel: Up to 25%
Relocation Assistance: Provided
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the single point of contact for Rapidus, managing technical concerns, troubleshooting malfunctions, and resolving escalations effectively.
- Collaborate closely with the customer to design and execute experiments for new process development, continuous improvement (CIP), troubleshooting, and tool-to-tool matching.
- Serve as the on-site technical expert during equipment installation, start-up, and warranty phases.
- Lead equipment qualification to meet customer process specifications, timelines, and ASM budget targets.
- Drive containment actions, short-term fixes, and long-term solutions aligned with customer requirements.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, sharing lessons learned across the key account organization and Global Sales and Services business unit.
- Evaluate and anticipate customer needs to build long-term, sustainable relationships and solutions.
- Champion continuous improvement of the customer experience through team collaboration, process optimization, and support tool development.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, or a related field.
- Hands-on R&D experience (industry or academia).
- Experience with advanced troubleshooting and structured problem analysis methodologies.
- Fluent English communication skills.
- Conversational Japanese (JLPT N2 or better).
- Residence in Hokkaido, Japan (or willingness to relocate).
Desirable Qualifications
- PhD in engineering, physics, chemistry, or related field.
- Cleanroom microfabrication experience (industry or academia).
- Broad technical and business experience in the Semiconductor / Capital Equipment industry.
- Knowledge of semiconductor device applications, vacuum techniques, film characterization, metrology, and deposition processes.
- Experience with data analysis and DOE design using JMP software.
- Business-level Japanese proficiency.
