Senior Field Service Engineer – Hokkaido (Tomakomai)

Location: Tomakomai, Hokkaido, Japan
Customer: Rapidus
Travel: Up to 25% 
Relocation Assistance: Provided

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the single point of contact for Rapidus, managing technical concerns, troubleshooting malfunctions, and resolving escalations effectively.
• Collaborate closely with the customer to design and execute experiments for new process development, continuous improvement (CIP), troubleshooting, and tool-to-tool matching.
• Serve as the on-site technical expert during equipment installation, start-up, and warranty phases.
• Lead equipment qualification to meet customer process specifications, timelines, and ASM budget targets.
• Drive containment actions, short-term fixes, and long-term solutions aligned with customer requirements.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, sharing lessons learned across the key account organization and Global Sales and Services business unit.
• Evaluate and anticipate customer needs to build long-term, sustainable relationships and solutions.
• Champion continuous improvement of the customer experience through team collaboration, process optimization, and support tool development.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, or a related field.
• Hands-on R&D experience (industry or academia).
• Experience with advanced troubleshooting and structured problem analysis methodologies.
• Fluent English communication skills.
• Conversational Japanese (JLPT N2 or better).
• Residence in Hokkaido, Japan (or willingness to relocate).

Desirable Qualifications

• PhD in engineering, physics, chemistry, or related field.
• Cleanroom microfabrication experience (industry or academia).
• Broad technical and business experience in the Semiconductor / Capital Equipment industry.
• Knowledge of semiconductor device applications, vacuum techniques, film characterization, metrology, and deposition processes.
• Experience with data analysis and DOE design using JMP software.
• Business-level Japanese proficiency.
