General summary
- Act as one of the Japan executive / management committee members to contribute to and support the business.
- Accountable for the operations management for Japan market to ensure that the Japan market operate with the appropriate infrastructure, process, policies & procedures, standards, internal controls, training, and tools to manage and monitor all operational matters and risks in accordance with RGA standards.
- Accountable for local Risk Management
- Drive and manage key and strategic initiatives and future of state projects to improve the overall operation effectiveness and efficiency and overall business results.
- Manage Administration, Administration & Systems, Claims teams
- Engage and actively represent the interests of Japan market to various stakeholders such as business heads, regional heads and local functional department heads to review operational performance, identify and resolve issues
Responsibilities
1. Operation Management
- Responsible for developing and implementing the best in class operations model and execution roadmap to support and in line with the business plan and enhance the overall operational efficiency
- Accountable for the strategic initiatives, programs or projects across the operation areas
- Engage relevant stakeholders to identify common issues, assess performance as well as to propose course of actions
- Manage and Coordinate key strategy paper and meetings Responsible for ensuring appropriate infrastructure, policies and procedures are in place that met the global standard and practice
- Be an agent for change management
- Accountable for establishing and implementing internal controls that can meet the requirements from internal and external audits as well as external regulators
- Keep abreast of the new developments in the industry, legal and compliance requirements and apply them as appropriate
- Design, prepare and interpret management information reports to ensure leaders can make informed decisions
2. Oversight of Administrations
- Lead all aspects of the Japan Administrations to ensure that these units are managing and operating efficiently, and monitoring and managing risks consistent with RGA best practices and standards
3. Risk Management
- Encourages and identify risk management issues and drive the education of risk reporting and risk management concepts
- Oversees and assesses key risks financial, operational, compliance reported to regional and/ or function heads; ensures steps are taken to mitigate such risks
- Provides regular updates on the status of all open audit issues (for the respective business units) to the COO, the local board (JMB), local audit/risk committee, the local compliance committee, and the regional CRO and COO
- Ensures all individual underwriting and claims management procedures, authorities; reporting and monitoring systems are operational and as agreed within the risk management function of the company
- Ensures timely and regular Quality Assurance Reviews of Underwriting, Claims, Treaties and Administration
4. Leadership and Management
- Act as one of the member of Japan Management Board and contributes to strategy and to the wider business leadership
- Be responsible for recruitment, training, engagement, talent development and succession planning of the teams
- Define the role and the authority of staff members and ensures they are competent and have the appropriate training and tools to succeed in their roles
- Demonstrate and act as a role model for RGA Values
5. Key Working Relationships
- Work closely with COO Japan, Regional Functional Heads, Local Functional Department Heads and various functional and working groups of Japan market to ensure
- Procedures/standards meet needs of local operation
- Other functions are able to complete their responsibilities as needed
- Placement of additional business with RGA
- Support for expansion into new territories or new lines of business
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree plus substantially related experience (10 plus years)
- Activities requiring the balancing of a number of objectives within a given timeframe by drawing on various resources allocation
- Identification and weighting of new and diverse consequences using recognized criteria
- Ability to manage, lead and mentor others
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Fluent level English and Japanese, both verbal and written
